In Buddhism, samsara refers to the cycle of successive rebirths in which unawakened beings are caught. Ignorance and attachment to our uncontrolled desires are the main causes that prevent us from rising spiritually and keep us chained to this cycle of endless suffering. Jann Gallois’ intention is to make this worldview manifest by symbolising it as a tangle of long cords in which the dancers find themselves entangled, tied to each other and subjected to a ‘machine’ that towers over them and constantly restarts a new life cycle. This process of creation under constraint is a habit in the work of the choreographer, who wishes here to make this constraint material, in order to take the counterpoint on this reality invisible to the naked eye.
